Course dynamics...

  Lessons: you can choose:

  • individual (one-to-one) tuition, or...
  • two-student tuition (studying with another member of your family or with a friend) or...
  • family group tuition (maximum 4 people - perhaps one or both parents accompanying their teenage child/children).

Course content: The content of each course  is assessed to suit the
needs and objectives of each individual Student - a combination of:

  • reading
  • writing
  • listening
  • speaking
  • grammar
  • vocabulary
  • pronunciation
  • specialist areas (presentations, meetings, negotiations, e-mailing,  idioms, etc., etc.)

  Course books/materials cover:

  • social language
  • cultural differences
  • and/or, if required, occupation-related topics.

  'Corrected conversation':

  • Although the afternoon and evening holiday activities are intended to be relaxing and interesting, they are also very much part of the learning/communication process – practising what you have learnt during the day ...improving your fluency and accuracy through 'corrected conversation'!  This is done discreetly and sympathetically and never in front of other visitors unless you request it.
  • (See also Typical Timetable).

Course duration...

Naturally, the longer you can stay, the better your English will become.
Ideally, we recommend that your Course should be at least 10 days including weekend activities.
But 'Learning English on Holiday'  'homestay' courses at The White House can be as short as a few days or as long as several weeks - to suit:

  • your budget
  • your available time
  • your language objectives
  • your holiday plans

For example, including the half day on arrival and the half day of departure as one day:

A 'LONG WEEKEND' - Friday afternoon (arrival) to Tuesday morning (departure) - 4 days of tuition/social activities.
NB  This short Course is very useful if you are already a fluent speaker of English and you have a particular project which you need to improve/perfect - a speech/presentation/report/preparing for a job interview/writing your CV/practising English idioms, etc.

ONE WEEK - Sunday afternoon (arrival) to Saturday morning (departure) -  a total of 6 days of tuition, corrected conversation and/or social activities.

10 DAYS - Sunday afternoon (arrival) to Wednesday morning of 2nd week (departure) - a total of 9 days of tuition, corrected conversation and/or social activities.
Recommended because the 9 complete days provide just enough tutoring hours to cover thoroughly the basic programme (see Typical timetable) balanced against the daily relaxation of social activities.

2 WEEKS - Sunday evening (arrival) to Saturday morning of 2nd week (departure) - a total of 13 days of tuition, corrected conversation and/or social activities.

3 WEEKS - Sunday evening (arrival) to Saturday morning of 3rd week (departure) - 20 days of tuition, corrected conversation and/or social activities.

...or more!
